Award Winning Poet To Read at Teesside Borders
Chris Firth, ( ‘Teesway One Nine Nine’ book and the award winning ‘North Yorkshire One Nine Nine’ (Yorkshire Book Of The Year),) is to read at Teesside Park Borders on Wednesday June 18th from 6.30pm.
Chris will read from his Tees inspired poetry, some of which was recently short-listed in the national Muslim Writers Awards 2008 (final 4 out of 10 000 entries). He will also read from his new work, ‘Sama Song’, which has strong Islamic Sufi and Arabic\Persian influences. While reading the ‘Sama Song’ poems, Chris will be accompanied by Egyptian musician Ahmed Adnan, an expert on Arabic music who is currently based in Teesside and band leader of Salaam-UK, along with Kurdish\Iraqi band member Salam Salam on accoustic Sazz.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=19755656859 to see the band last week in MAnchester.
The Borders reading will be the first time that the ‘Sama’ poems have been read in public, and with Salaam-Uk's musical accompaniment the event promises to be moving and memorable.
Local poets and writers will also read at the event, and there will be an open microphone session for anyone wishing to read.
Further details of the reading at Borders are available from Borders bookshop via Jon – Borderlines organiser, jon.euroaquilo@hotmail.co.uk, |
