I'm so excited, just won the first 10 issues of Interzone on Ebay and they arrived today - fantastic to see how it evolved in those first few issues and it came with the Ballard freebie from the first issue? I'm sure Roy will tell me if not. Read that and it was brilliant.

I always love picking up old fiction and SF mags, I subscribe to new ones, where money and time prevails or get the institution I work for to take out a subscription to as many mags as possible. Wish I had time to read them all. Am I the only freak or do old mags smell just great? Like the pages of an old Eagle annual.

I wondered if anyone else had had a good haul of old fiction or poetry mags recently?

Andrew I'm quoting from a brief history of Interzone supplied by David Pringle. I'm sure he won't mind.

Quote:
In the summer of 1981 I had approached J. G. Ballard for an original story to appear in our premier issue. He didn't have one, but as it happened he had just completed a 13,000-word novelette, "News from the Sun," which was due to appear in the literary magazine Ambit. With the consent of Ambit's editor, Martin Bax, and on the payment of a nominal fee to Ballard, we were allowed to use this story as our special offer to charter subscribers. It was an inexpensive exercise. The Interzone edition of News from the Sun, signed by the author, is now a collector's item and certainly worth much more than the cost of a charter subscription. (In fact a second-hand book-dealer recently told me that he bought a copy for £50 and promptly sold it for £75.)

I think David wrote it for the 15 th anniversary in 1997.

Blast, I read Ballard's story first and it was great. Only the first 100 were signed but mine is 551 of 750. Nevermind but either way I am excited to read this and the first 10 Interzone's. I wouldn't be parted with them.
