Very quiet this section so here you are:

Walking down Ivy Road in Spring

The trees had shed blossom and precurser seeds
But Ivy Road was greening with new growing leaves
Walking beneath on a wet tarmac path
Between two swards of straggly grass
Surfaces strewn with petal confetti
pink and white and little green tridents
but on the grass, bulbous and brown
with a raised, fingerlike, central crown
a memento from the dogwalkers of the town

Made me laugh, Roy. Also, your poll questions made me roar aloud. I'm glad someone is using this part of the forum. We get alot of lurkers, you know who you are! It's time you joined and not just sat there getting info without contributing. Sterling work, Roy, sterling!

Thanks Andrew and the second voter.

Maybe Incwriters should allow anonymous posting in this section. There are sites where you have to log on but you can choose to post under your user name or as anonymous.

3! votes. It's not many unless the other 50 users are concerned about hurting my feelings.
How about this, which is obviously the result of one of those exercises you get in poetry workshops? You know the sort - write a poem using the word...

Humbug

Nonsense, deception, fraud or a boiled sweet
are meanings I found in my dictionary
when I looked up the word Humbug.
These all apply to my poetry
since my lines make no sense, but I
deceive myself they do, because once
I was published, and paid for verse,
which lies unread in the Physics World Archive.
Defrauding all who search back to 1995

The thesaurus is less forgiving of humbug
rating it 'claptrap, gibberish, twaddle
bunkum, codswallop, hogwash,
hooey, rubbish, baloney and garbage, or
hypocrisy, lies, deceit, pretence,
propaganda, sham insincerity and' … there
I stop, before hokum and bunk, because
'sham insincerity' is so apt
that it rots your teeth.

Hokum and bunk is one of my favourite lines, Roy, shame others haven't voted but I have just emailed our 52 members and hopefully they will drop in more.
