PUSH
PUSH is a new programme of masterclasses and skills workshops for spoken word artists in the North West who want to push the boundaries of the artform.
The skills workshops are open to all, although places are limited.
Each masterclass is open to four artists and places will be awarded following an application process (details below). Each masterclass participant will also be invited to perform at an Apples & Snakes showcase event.
The workshops and masterclasses will follow these themes:
1. Multi-Media and Spoken Word with Wonder, 24 May
2. Physicality and Voice, 20 September
3. Stage Persona with Chloe Poems, 22 November
4. Developing your Writing, February 2009
The masterclasses will run from 10am-1pm and the workshops will run from 2pm-5pm on the dates specified above.
The sessions will take place at Contact Theatre in Manchester

application process for workshops
There are 12 places in each skills workshop. To express interest in Multi-Media and Spoken Word wih Wonder, please send an email to ann@applesandsnakes.org. To reserve a place you will need to send a cheque for £20. This will be returned to you on the day of the workshop and only cashed if you do not attend.
Application deadline: 25 April
application process for masterclasses
There are 4 places in each masterclass. Participants will be given the opportunity to develop a specific piece of work in each masterclass and then to perform their work in a showcase. In order to apply please send the following:
1. A specific piece of work that you would like to develop. This may be written text on a Word Document or an MP3 sample.
2. One paragraph about how you would like to push the boundaries of your work. In your paragraph please address the following points:
What is the strength of your spoken word work ?
What aspect of your performance would you like to focus on ?
What is your motivation ?
What inspires you ?
What would you like to achieve as a spoken word artist ?
3. Your full contact details and a short biography.
4. State clearly which masterclasses you are interested in attending, in order of preference. You can apply for all four masterclasses but each artist will only be allowed a place on one.
