Our hugely successful Poetry programme continues with Debut: Poetry, a national tour introducing three outstanding new poets.
Paul Batchelor is a north-east-based poet. His first collection, The Sinking Road, has just been published by Bloodaxe.
‘Thematic range, formal diversity, intellectual curiosity, passion, intimacy, and a musical ear that makes the reader sit up: Paul Batchelor comes with an enviable array of powers. His work is rich, rewarding and original.’ (Sean O’Brien)
Frances Leviston’s debut collection, Public Dream (Picador, 2007) was shortlisted for the prestigious 2007 T S Eliot Prize.
‘Her combination of technical mastery and fresh, unrehearsed sensibility is what makes this collection [Public Dream] so exciting.’(Times)
Kathryn Simmonds is a prize-winning poet, whose debut collection, Sunday at the Skin Launderette (Seren), is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.
‘Quirky, witty, moving, Kathryn Simmonds´ gift is to find joy and beauty in unexpected places. She invests the everyday world with an extraordinary luminosity.’ (Jackie Kay)
This promises to be an exceptionally vibrant evening.
Do arrive early, each of the readings so far has been near capacity.
And if you haven't made it to any of the readings, you can check out what you've been missing with our new series of podcasts on www.wordsworth.org.uk
*Dove Cottage Poets
with Wordsworth Trust Poet-in-Residence Adam O'Riordan
Lower Rotunda, The Jerwood Centre, The Wordsworth Trust
2.30pm - 4.30pm Friday 27th June
and thereafter on the last Friday of every month
A wonderful opportunity to try your hand at writing poetry. Whether you have never set pen to paper before or you are a seasoned sonneteer, this is a monthly group for poets of all levels and experience.
In a relaxed and welcoming environment we will spend the first hour looking a poem; exploring it and sharing our thoughts and ideas. The second half will be spent composing and discussing our own work in an open and friendly forum, using exercises and activities designed to build confidence and inspire creativity.
We will discuss a range of forms, from sonnets to sestinas, as well as focusing on approaches to the creative process and how best to harness the poetic impulse.
For futher information contact Literature Officer Andrew Forster on A.Forster@wordsworth.org.uk or on 015394 35544
I look forward to seeing you at one or all of the above .
With very warm wishes
Andrew
